Frequently Asked Questions
Are you competing with lawyers?
NO! Quite the opposite- we are an opportunity for early intervention, and we always attempt to offer proactive solutions long before the situation becomes impossible to correct. However, we will refer you to a legal advisor, should that be your best alternative.
I am so sick of my boss treating me badly and if he yells at me one more time in public I will quit my job (which I truly love - other than that). Isn’t that my only choice?
So many great employees are subjected to workplace bullying. It could be the boss, or a colleague, but it doesn’t matter who the bully is - the employee does not have to put up with it. There are solutions which we can help with which range from a simple phone call or letter to the employer on your behalf, to assisting you with a formal complaint. If need be, we can refer you to a labour lawyer but our goal is to correct the problem through education and intervention long before it turns into a legal issue.
I haven’t had a raise in years - I guess the only solution is to quit.
Don’t quit until you’ve exhausted all your options. There are times when a compelling argument can be made to convince your employer to re-consider your situation. This can be done in a non-threatening way too. We will advocate on your behalf and seek to find a solution which is acceptable for both parties.
My colleagues tell disgusting jokes and make personal comments that I don’t appreciate - what do I do? How can I stop my co-workers from making fun of me because of my lifestyle?
Don’t worry - there are very effective methods for stopping workplace harassment - sometimes it is as simple as informing your employer that there is harassment being condoned in the workplace. Perhaps the culture has developed where harassment is invisible to the employer but is a painful reality to a few employees.
I keep being turned down for promotion and I suspect that it is something to do with my personal situation. Do I have any recourse?
This is always difficult to deal with because if an employer is bypassing you - there may be very good reasons that you don’t fully understand. There may be more sinister reasons which are unfair - we can help you to find out though. It all starts with us finding out more about you and your situation.
I was fired - and it was totally unfair - I don’t know what to do.
I have a horrible feeling that someone is building a case to fire me - what can I do?
I quit my job in disgust last week - and now I can’t get unemployment insurance benefits - Is there something I can do?
You may be surprised to find out that all three of these questions are similar. If you have been unfairly terminated or quit due to reasons beyond your control, or get fired after a long period of silent ‘case building’, there may be actions that you can take. In some cases a lawyer is your best recourse- and in others it is definitely not. A free 30 minute consultation with us will help you to understand your options.
