Frequently Asked Questions
What will a career consultant do for me?
Basically, a career consultant can help you realize where you are in your career and work with you
to make plans for your future. It’s all about giving you direction and some goals to work towards.
Having an appropriate focus can make a world of difference to your happiness and success.

Why would I ever go to a career consultant?
There are lots of reasons! You may have jumped from job to job, trying to find the right one,
or may have discovered after many years in a job that you really don’t enjoy it. You may have been
fired - or expect to be. You might be leaving the military or public service after many years and
not sure what to do.

Career consultants use expensive personality profiles to tell me what I already know - don’t they?
Arguably, profiling and testing are only sophisticated (and expensive) methods to show someone what
they already know about themselves. Our clients appreciate the advice we give them because it’s based
upon many years of actual business experience.
Frequently, you will be consulting with someone who has actually hired, fired, and coached people
routinely. Our advice is based on hands-on experience and is very down to earth, and for those reasons,
very useful to the average person.

What should I look for in a career consultant?
That’s always a difficult question. The best advice we can give someone is to shop around.
Look for some key indicators –
Does this seem like a legitimate business?
How long have they been in business?
Do they belong to the better business bureau?
Do they have the type of experience to be a competent and reliable advisor?
Make sure that you 'connect' with this person and that they really understand you’re your goals
and your skills. Remember: Would you trust your smile with a dentist that you didn’t feel comfortable
with? - Of course not, so why trust your career with someone that can’t win your respect or understand
what you want to do?
